Pain
There may be a variety of causes for complex pain conditions. It is often difficult to find a cause for the pain. Pain which is difficult to control may be due e.g. to scarring after disc operations or trigeminal neuralgia (the strongest facial pain in the area of the trigeminal facial nerves). In addition to optimising drug pain therapy, we offer the following procedures if conservative pain therapies are unsuccessful:
-Implantation of spinal medulla stimulation systems for complex pain conditions (implantation of neurostimulants): Test electrodes are first positioned in the area of the spinal medulla skin, pain is no longer felt to be unpleasant after electrical stimulation. After the test stimulation, a computer-controlled transmitter is placed under the skin. The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis and is suitable for pain for which there is no other therapy e.g. scarring pain after disc operations.
-Implantation of drug pumps and reservoirs: Drugs can be delivered directly into the fluid-filled spaces around the spinal cord by means of a drug pump inserted under the skin. There is often a marked improvement in the quality of life of the patient concerned. This procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis or during a short stay in the clinic.
